Solving Tarkeeb is an English translation and explanatory study of Maulana Muhammad Ahsan Nanotwi’s Hal-e-Tarkeeb (حلِّ ترکیب), designed to make the traditional Arabic discipline of Tarkeeb easier to understand for English-speaking students.
The book introduces readers to the detailed grammatical analysis of Arabic sentences. Tarkeeb involves breaking an Arabic sentence down word by word, identifying the grammatical function of each word, understanding its relationship with surrounding words, and then reconstructing the complete sentence. The book therefore provides a practical bridge between Arabic grammar studies and the detailed parsing traditionally taught in Islamic seminaries.
The Book demonstrates the approach through examples such as Bismillah, where individual words are identified according to their grammatical roles—including Harf al-Jarr (Preposition), Mudaf (Possessor), Mudaf Ilayh (Possession), Mawsoof (Described Noun), Sifah (Quality) and other grammatical constructions. The explanations also discuss concepts such as Majroor, Fi'l, Fa'il, Dhamir, Jumlah Fi'liyyah and hidden verbs. It provides a practical introduction to the detailed grammatical analysis of Arabic sentences, explaining the role and relationship of individual words through concepts such as Mudaf, Mudaf Ilayh, Majroor, Fa'il, Fi'l, Dhamir and other Arabic grammatical structures. Translated and explained by Muhammad Huzaifah ibn Adam aal-Ebrahim and edited by Mufti Afzal Hoosen Elias, this 206-page paperback is a valuable resource for students of Arabic grammar, Tarkeeb and traditional Islamic studies.
